Our adventure in NYC

My son’s High School choir will be performing at St. Patricks Cathedral in NYC and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be a chaperone on this amazing trip. Our guide Corey, was the founder of  Green Light Group tour  and 1 of our tour guides on this trip. I can’t say enough great things about this touring company and Corey! Since there were 116 students and adult attending this trip, we had to meet especially early @ DFW airport for our flight. Our tour guide had our day packed with activities that started early in the morning and ended late at night. There’s so many things to do in NYC that we needed all the time we got.

Once we arrived at La Guardia airport, Corey helped us get our bags and all of us loaded on our bus. Thank goodness our first stop was lunch @ John’s Pizza in Time Square. It’s voted one of New York Cities best people because of their ovens. The 800 degree coal fired ovens have no thermostats to control the heat, so the employee must go through extensive training to know when the thin pizza is done. Once you walk inside, look up. Another feature about his location if the building. It used to be a church and it’s striking ceilings don’t let  you forget it. I had the pizza Bianca and I’m still daydreaming about it. It’s ricotta and mozzarella cheese and nothing else on the dough.  So worth staying late at the gym for 2 of these slices 😉 As you can tell from the pictures below, it was raining when we arrived. So, tip #1, make sure you pack an umbrella and a jacket!

After lunch, we checked in our hotel in Manhattan and unpacked. We had to make sure all 110 students were situated in their room and ready to go soon, we had a Broadway show to watch. After a very short break, we loaded our bus (it was still raining) and headed to see Aladdin on Broadway. The kids AND adults were excited to see this musical. It was “seriously, Amazing” and the Genie stole the spot light. We have taken our boys to see lots of musicals but watching a performance on Broadway is completely different. Christian’s favorite part was the Genie of course and the special effect when Aladdin took Jasmine on a “magic carpet ride”. It really looked like they were flying through a sky full of stars.

After walking around Time Square, we made our way to Guy Fieri’s Restaurant. They had organized for our group to occupy the bottom level of the restaurant and had a buffet ready for us. The buffet included macaroni and cheese, trash can nachos, potatoes and chicken. My favorite was the trash can nachos. I loved the layers of beans, meat, cheese and whatever other goodness they pilled on my plate. We had definitely arrived win Flavor town!

After walking back to our hotel room in the rain, we were ready to call it a night! The kids loved walking in the rain and it made a great memory for everyone. By this time it was around 11:00pm and I was exhausted. Time to go to bed and get ready for Day #2 in NYC. Have I told yet that NYC is my favorite city in the Whole world? Don’t forget to follow my blog below because I have 3 more days to share with you! -Dot
